Although EVO has been purchased, the organization's founders, Tom and Tony, will remain involved with the organization, serving as consultants and advisers to create more eSports tournaments. According to Sony itself, the company is aiming to "ensure that EVO remains a single-base competitive platform for fighting players and fans around the world".

Through the online format, Sony is planning to hold regional tournaments with EVO in Latin America, North America, Europe and Asia, covering games: Street Fighter V: Champion Edition, Tekken 7, Mortal Kombat 11 Ultimate and Guilty Gear Strive. However, only North America, South America and Europe will host the Mortal Kombat 11 tournaments.

Meanwhile, PlayStation and PC platforms will host Street Fighter V tournaments. Guilty Gear Strive and Mortal Kombat 11 will be on PlayStation only. It was also clarified that the Tekken 7 game can be played exclusively on the PC.

Despite all that, Sony left out some titles like Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and Dragon Ball FighterZ. However, registration for the August tournaments is now open and will be completely free, and can be accessed through the EVO website itself.
